Demystifying Scleral & Hybrid Contact Lenses: Complex or Not?

Talk Description

Presentation Outline:

Fitting rigid scleral contact lenses and hybrid contact lenses can pose significant challenges to the contact lens practitioner although the fitting principles associated with these lenses are relatively straightforward.  In this talk, the indications for the use of these lenses will be outlined along with the relative benefits and disadvantages of these respective contact lens modalities.  In particular, there will be extensive discussion on how these lenses can be utilized in the contact lens management of keratoconus, as well as other complex contact lens fittings such as post-graft and post-refractive surgery.

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will obtain a better understanding of the different ocular conditions that can be managed by scleral or hybrid contact lenses.
  • Participants will become more familiar with the indications and contraindications for the use of scleral and hybrid contact lenses.
  • Emphasis will be placed on fitting principles and problem solving with scleral and hybrid contact lenses.
