Dr Nicholas Young - On-Demand Presenter

Professional Bio

Nicholas graduated in Biological Sciences at LaTrobe University, before completing an Honours degree majoring in Genetics. He then completed a PhD in the Department of Medicine, University of Melbourne.  Following a four-year stint working with CSL on current and pipeline pharmaceutical medical trials, he returned to study, completing his Optometry degree and therapeutics certificate.

He has worked as an ACO staff optometrist, student clinic supervisor and has been a visiting optometrist to numerous clinics.  In 2003 he established a private practice in Melbourne’s Eastern suburbs.  Later to be called the Dry Eye Centre, his expertise in ocular surface and dry eye disease was established, largely through self-education and mentoring with leading USA dry eye ophthalmologist, Rolando Toyos.

The Dry Eye centre is believed to be the first clinic of its kind in Australia.  Largely referral based, for many years the clinic has received patients from all around Australia and several other countries. The clinic has always emphasised the importance of evidence-based practice, whilst aiming to ensure an exceptional patient experience.

Nicholas is a presenter, has several peer reviewed publications and is an occasional contributor to the periodicals of Optometry Australia.  He has a keen interest in encouraging the diversification of expertise in optometry.  He is also a University of Melbourne Alumni, and participant in the University’s student mentoring program.
